At Pelorus Elder & Behavioral Health, we are leading experts in practicing Psychiatry within skilled nursing and subacute rehabilitation settings, as well as assisted living communities.
We are currently the largest private Psychiatric medical practice specializing in Geriatric Psychiatry and Adult Psychiatry in the state of New Jersey. We offer geriatric medication management and long-term psychiatry.
In addition to our Jersey roots, we are also actively expanding our Psychiatric services into surrounding states and beyond.
We provide regular in-person rounds to our communities, and we also have rapid-response telepsychiatry available Monday through Friday for urgent matters.
We have a provider on call 24/7 for any other urgent matter that may arise during off-hours and/or on holidays.
Company History
Established in 2009, Pelorus (recently rebranded from NJ Memory and Behavioral Care) is a boutique private practice founded by Dr. Matthew Barnas - board certified in Geriatric and Adult Psychiatry. Dr. Barnas completed his Geriatric training at Yale University. Some of his past work experiences include being the Associate Director of Geriatric Psychiatry at Overlook Hospital, Chief of Geriatric Psychiatry at Runnells Hospital, and Chief of Geriatric Psychiatry at the East Orange V.A.
Since then, Pelorus has experienced multi-state growth and is known to be one of the most reputable practices specializing in Adult and Geriatric Psychiatry within New Jersey.
Dr. Barnas has also founded the partner organization Pelorus Guardianship.
